Adapted from Ginny Cowden's recipe.  Makes about 24 brownies.
Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 10 to 12
  • 1½ sticks unsalted butter (3/4 cups), melted
  • 2⅓ cups brown sugar, packed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.  Butter and flour a 9 x 13-inch baking pan;  set aside.  Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.  Stir in brown sugar and salt.  Remove from heat and stir in eggs  and vanilla.  Mix well.  Add flour, baking powder, and baking soda.  Stir until combined.  Scrape batter into prepared pan and spread it as evenly as you can (it will be very thick).  Sprinkle chocolate chips on the top.  Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool in pan before slicing.
